Kathryn's Blog

Ok every day i'm going to try to have a funny video for you to watch, or some hilarious anecdote...probably not but i'm going to try.

Aug 30

Morning!  I'm back from my little jaunt to Manitoba.  What a great weekend it was.  Got to see some high school friends at a friends wedding then my family drove in and spent the rest of the weekend with me.  It was great.  But now we're back into the swing of things.  Now i wasn't here on Friday when Taylor Swift officially released her video for Mine.  In fact it was released live Friday evening so i'm not so behind the times.  But I've watched it and it's pretty cool.  So I thought you should see it.  Here ya go...enjoy!

Aug 23

Happy Monday to you all!  I have a feeling this is going to be a pretty good week.  That may be because it's a short work week for me as i'm off to Winnipeg Thursday afternoon for a wedding and to see the fam.  But also it's because we get to giveaway a lotta stuff...or qualify you for some great prizes.

Firstly the Key 83 CCMA Experience!  Head over to our contest page for full details.  I'm super excited because I get to bring you guys along with me...or at least one of you and 3 of your friends.  It should be a great show and I can't wait.  We'll qualify people 2 times each morning...so listen for those nominees!

We've also got the Back to School promo going on.  Next chance to get your name in for that locker full of goodies is this Wednesday at Heritage Optical in Lloyd from 1:30-5:30.  Next chance in Wainwright is Friday from 1-5 at Sprouts and Jabbers!

And of course the big announcement this morning that Brad Paisley is coming back to Edmonton.  This time he's bringing Darius Rucker and Justin Moore!  He's playing Rexall Place on October 4th and all week long we're going to beat the box office.  All I need to know is your favorite Brad Paisley song and you can qualify.  So good luck all week.  Tickets go on sale Saturday at 10am so we'll make the draw on Friday morning!

It's going to be a busy one so lets get to it!

Aug 18

Morning all!  How goes the battle of the Thursday? I'm looking forward to the weekend.  May head up to Lloyd for the Ezzie's on the border Chuckwagon Cabaret with George Canyon, Victoria Banks and Hey Romeo.  Or just enjoy the weekend playing some games with freinds.  Staying dry cuz it's supposed to rain!

If you heard this mornign Taylor Swift is out with her album cover...it's below.  Her new album comes out on October 25th called Speak Now.  But the video for her new song Mine hits the airways next Friday August 27th!  It's being broadcast in 160 country so check your tvs and internet for the video cuz i'm sure you'll be able to find it.

For now make sure to listen starting MOnday to win your way to the CCMA's with me!  And also where you can go to enter our cool Back To School promotion.  Good luck!

Aug 13

So it's Friday the 13th...Superstitious?  Me not so much.  This day is just like any other.  So we'll move past that and onto something cool that happened on tv last night.  If you watch So You Think you Can Dance then you know what i'm talking about.  Alex Wong and tWitch performed a hip hop routine during the first weeks of the competition and it was amazing....in case you missed it Click Here to watch.

Then Alex got hurt so when it came time for the finale a famous face...known partly for her dancing started training and learning that routine so when it came time for the finale she could perform it with tWitch.  So last night before the winner of SYTYCD was announced out came Ellen Degeneres to perform the routine.  While it wasn't as amazing as the original, it was awesome in it's own way.  So take a look at Ellen performing hip hop on the So You Think You Can Dance finale!

Aug 9 part 2

Tomorrow Carolyn Dawn Johnson releases her first album in a few years called Love Rules!  And we're giving you a chance to win it tomorrow morning before you head to stores to buy it.  So here's how it's going to go.  The first single she released off the album was Let Me Introduce Myself.  So tomorrow when I give you the cue to call, you call me up and introduce yourself.  Tell me something about yourself and i'll award you with a copy of CDJ's new album Love Rules.  Good luck to you!

Aug 9th

Morning all!  Hope you had a great weekend.  Mine was pretty laid back, enjoyed some time on the deck just relaxing.  It was very nice!

As you may have heard we debuted brand new Sugarland last week called Stuck Like Glue.  Lots of different opinions on the song.  Some love it, some hate it.  Personally i'm in the like and will probably grow on my camp.  I also talked about the making of the video and the fact that it stars Ryan McPartlin from the tv show Chuck.  I'm a fan of his so I was excited for the video.  After watching it, i'm still a big fan.  The concept is nothing real new, she's a stalker who thinks she's in love with him.  He just thinks she's crazy.  And while some will say it's pretty ridiculous and odd.  I find odd endearing.  Take a watch for yourself and judge.  I think Jennifer Nettles plays crazy good!  I don't know what that means, but I like it.  Check it out here!

Aug 4

Morning all!  Hope you're enjoying mid week Wednesday.  Personally i'm excited it's Wednesday already.  It may be a short work week but i'm really looking forward to the weekend again!  I've talked about the CCMA's that are happening September 12th in Edmonton and how i'm super excited about the show.  Well you could be to because you have a chance to actually be at the show and present an award.  The CCMA Fans Choice Award is yours to vote for.  Head on over to http://www.ccmavoting.org/fanschoice/ and vote for your favorite artist. Then by filling out your info you can have a chance to actually present the award during the show September 12th.  Good luck and happy voting!

Aug 3rd

Well on the weekend I went to see Miranda Lambert at BVJ but she got pulled off the stage due to the storm coming.  That was terrible, I was so looking forward to seeing her but had to be safe so it was a good call. So I didn't get to see her perform Only Prettier, her latest single...but the new video did debut today!  But it's only available in one spot.  And that spot can be found by clicking here It's pretty great considering it's got Miranda's good friends Kellie Pickler and Hillary Scott from Lady A in it.  So click on the link and enjoy!  Can't wait for it to go into rotation on CMT!

July 29 part 2

I came across this this morning and had to share it with you.  It's Lady A's brand new websiode in which they spoof Lee Brice's Love Like Crazy...Biscuits and Gravy!  It's hilarious.  I'm going to try to track down their first spoof that they mention in the video. But for now here's Biscuits and Gravy from Lady A!

July 29

Yesterday was the announcement of the CCMA nominations.  Lots of artists were on hand for the announcmenet including leading nominee Gord Bamford.  He has 6 nominations and is nominated in every category in which he's eligible.  Pretty impressive!  I'm really looking forward to the show September 12th at Rexal Place in Edmonton.  It's going to be fantastic.  And tickets are still available.  So check out www.ticketmaster.ca for ticket details.  And head on over to www.ccma.org for a full list of nominees and the official nominee announcment.  Congrats to all the nominees and we play every one of them right here on Key 83!  And just a note...keep it tuned right here for a future announcment involving the awards show.  You don't want to miss that coming up in about a month!

Make sure to join me in Vermilion today for the fair.  It's going to be hot, but come out with lots of sunscreen and a hat and lots of water.  It's going to be great. Parade starts at 11.  See ya there.  And also if you're in Wainwright make sure to take in the Taste of Wainwright on 2nd Ave west of the clock and try over 13 different booths and different kinds of food.

Then it's Big Valley.  I'm going Friday night to catch Miranda Lambert.  It's going to be amazing.

Have a safe long weekend and enjoy whatever you may be doing!

July 28

Hey all, it's Wednesday, the Wednesday before the long weekend!  Which means it's pretty busy around here.  So much is going on.  Hopefully you can take in some of the events.  Tomorrow is Taste of Wainwright on 2nd Ave in Wainwright from 4-8.  Lots of food and different kinds to try out.  And i'll be in Vermilion for the fair all day.  First the parade at 11 then on location crom 2-6. So it's going to be a long one.  Then on Friday it's off to Big Valley Jamboree for the Friday night performances.  I'm so excited to see Miranda Lambert live.  Like uber excited.  I'll take some pics if you can't make it.  So the rest of my long weekend is going to be catching up on sleep.  And boy do I look forward to that already.  If you're going to BVJ let me know, maybe we can meet up somewhere in the giant area that is BVJ!

Hopefully you listened this morning for the debut of Sugarland's new tune Stuck Like Glue.  Man do I love this song. It's perfect for the summer.  And I can't wait for the video that stars Ryan McPartlin from Chuck...he's Captain Awesome in the show!  We can look for that very soon.  We'll start spinning the tune next week so if you missed it just keep listening.  And if you wanna hear it during the morning show...call me up and request it.  I'll be glad for any excuse to play it!

Make sure to listen tomorrow for a chance to win tickets to BVJ thanks to Linda and Kirby Nanias.  And we'll give you more details on tomorrow's busy day.  Then join me in Vermilion tomorrow afternoon!  Should be great.  Enjoy the long weekend if I don't talk to you before hand!

July 22

Morning all!  It's almost the weekend.  And boy am I looking forward to it.  It's supposed to be nice so maybe get a golf game in.  Anyone up for a round?  Let me know, I need some golfing buddies.  No one around here seems to want to golf.

If you were listening this morning I talked about the old spice commercials and how their sales are apparently down even though the commercials are amazing.  They feature a guy named Isaiah Mustafa and he's a great actor and these commercials have launched his career, however the sales of the body wash he's advertising have actually decreased.  Crazy!  But the commercials are still great.  Here's the latest one.

July 21

Today is another big day...it's my Dad's birthday!  He's the big 5-6!  Happy birthday Wayne Bob!  Love you Daddy!

Make sure you're listening today for Reba's new tune Turn on the Radio for your chance to Beat The Box office.  Also today we're going to air the chat I had with Katie Love Hess.  She stopped by the studio yesterday for an interview and honestly was one of the best interviews i've had.  It was just like chatting with a good friend, even though we'd only met 5 minutes earlier.  It was such an easy interview we ended up chatting for about 12 minutes.  So I couldn't air it all on the radio, but I have the entire interview, in 3 parts, on our audio page here on the website.  So look there for the whole thing and make sure to listen to some of the other interviews we've done in the past.  Click Here for our audio page.

Here's Katie and I in studio.

July 20th

Today is a big day, it's Toby the Intern's birthday! Ok that's big here but not to all of you haha  The big deal today is that it's huge concert announcement day!  As I write this it is 6:40 in the morning.  So that means i'm telling you 1 hour before i'm legally allowed to tell you!  It's a big deal I tells you.  This is one announcement i've known about for a few weeks now but couldn't say anything and i'm so excited because I get to cross off an artist on my list of concerts to see.  REBA is coming to Edmonton!  I know exciting right!  She's going to be in concert at Rexall Place in Edmonton on Friday Octover 29th with guest Melissa Peterman.  She's a comedienne who stared as Barbara Jean in Rebas sitcom.  So not only am I excited to see Reba, but it's on a Friday so I have no problem being able to go.  So i'm getting my tickets are you?  They go on sale Saturday July 24th at 10am from www.livenation.com or www.ticketmaster.ca It's going to be amazing.  More amazing?  We've got a pair of tickets to beat the box office.  So listen for Reba's new tune Turn On The Radio each morning this week.  So 4 chances to call in and qualify.  I'll draw for the tickets on Friday morning.  Good luck!

Listen for Reba's new hit Turn On The Radio then look for her new album in stores November 9th!

July 19th part 2

Did you hear Katie Love Hess' brand new single Brand New Into You's?  Let me know what you think and if you have any questions to ask as she's going to be stopping by the studio Tuesday afternoon.  I'll have the interview for you on Wednesday.  But I need help with some questions.  Listen again to the tune and let me know what you think by e-mailing me kchase@newcap.ca

Take a listen to the song here and then let me know what you think!

July 19th

Morning all!  How was the weekend.  Hopefully better than my tvless one.  Annoying to say the least.  But I did get a lot of reading done haha  Well one of my favorite songs right now is Jaron and the Long Road to Love.  The video...love it even more.  Here it is for your enjoyment.  Pray for You!

July 15th

Good morning!  How goes the battle today?  I"m just looking forward to the weekend, aren't we all?  On the show this morning I talked about Edgerton trying to get Paul Brandt to come and do a concert.  It's pretty easy to help out.  They've nominated their small town heroes the Volunteer Fire Department in Edgerton now all we have to do is vote away.  So make sure to help them out because if they win, then we win and get to see Paul Brandt.  Head on over to www.smalltownheroes.ca and vote!  Click on the nominees gallery then search for Edgerton and read the nomination  and vote.  Simple!  Good luck to all those in Edgerton, I hope we can see Paul Brandt live and win the fire department some funds!

PS don't forget Movie Under The Stars tomorrow night at Wallace Park...we'll be showing the Blind Side!

July 14th

Hey all!  Hope you're having a great Wednesday and were listening this morning for the debut of brand new Reba, but if you missed it it'll start spinning next week on Key 83.  Also this morning I talked about how Jewel headed to a Kareoke bar in disguise and sang to an amazed crowd for www.funnyordie.com.  It was amazing...here's the clip.  Enjoy!

July 8th part 2

Ok so as you all know i've been on holidays for the past week or so for my brothers wedding.  What an amazing week it was.  Pretty busy too.  As many of you have probably be involved in some way in a wedding there's a lot of planning and freaking out before the wedding actually takes place.  First of all there was mowing grass so the yard looks good for the relatives to arrive and then we get to the decorating of the hall, which by the way turned out absolutely amazing!  Plus of course there's the clothes you gotta wear, worrying about the weather and the damn mosquitoes, cuz they're crazy in Manitoba!  The weather turned out perfect, not to hot...except for in the non air conditioned church.  I damn near died!  My sister and I were the candle lighters which apparently turned into a race neither one of us were aware of as there was play by play going on in the crowd.  I lost...very sad cuz I had Laura until the last candle wouldn't light!  The pictures were taken the supper was one of the best meals i've eaten in a long time and then it was time for the dance.  And what a riot that was!  The bouquet was caught by my sister and the garter by two of the groomsmen who then had to put the garter back on Laura, my sister.  Well that was entertaining as they had to use their teeth.  We then got the hall cleaned up after selling out of alcohol...we know how to party in Miniota!  And then it was sleep time till the gift opening the next day then it was all over.  It couldn't have been any better for Jeff and Ashleigh!  So congrats to them again and thanks for a great week of holidays!

July 8th

I'll re-cap my holidays later today but for now a special birthday poem for Lana Holt who turns 50 today!

May your eyes hold a sparkle and always shine.  May you get better with age just like fine wine.
May your boobs never fall touching your knees.  May you never pittle your pants each time that you sneeze.
May the spring in your step always be there. I wish you these things because I care.
Hope that your mind stays sharp and on top of yourgame. HIding your own Easter Eggs just isn't the same.
Now your friends will joke and poke fun a lot. But for a 50 year old granny your still pretty hot.
So remember this, when it comes down to the end. Aging with grace will be your best friend.
Happy 50th Birthday Lana Holt from Anonymous!

June 23

It's Stampede!!!  So excited for todays events and maybe go see some of the rodeo tomorrow night before I have to take off Friday morning.  See if I get my packing all done haha  Make sure to come join me downtown this afternoon for Stamepde downtown put on by the Chamber.  It should be a great afternoon/evening of entertainment.

Now last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live Dierks Bentley was set to peform, but then they had a power outage that cut out the cameras.  So Jimmy improvised with his laptop webcam and we had a show.  So Dierks got into the spirit of things and performed with no electrical equipment.  Just the instruments!  It was fantastic.  So here it is for you...

June 15

2 Blogs in one day...the world is exploding.  Anyways for all you soccer fans head to www.fifa.com for all the highlights from the Fifa World Cup in South Africa.  Amazing action so far and it's only going to get better as teams are elimintated.  CBC is carrying all the action so enjoy!

June 15

Hey all, so i'm back from a long weekend trip back to Manitoba.  What a weekend it was!  As you know I left Wednesday and actually surprised my dad as he thought I wasn't coming till Thursday...always good to surprise people!  Then it was pretty much go time.  It was Miniota's annual Celebrity Golf Tournament at the Miniota Golf Course.  Always an amazing time and this year was no different.  On Friday I had the great job of beer cart operator.  This would have been even better if it wasn't such crappy weather.  We had a little bit of rain on and off througout the day and didn't see the sun once.  So we weren't as busy as usual.  Then it was time for social #1 Friday night.  I'll get to what happened later that night in a bit.  On Saturday it was up bright and early for the pancake breakfast and then off to golf.  Started off with a little bit of mist but no heavy rain and by the end of the day we actually saw some sunshine.  I however had to cut out after 13 holes to head to a friends Baby Shower, but our team ended up -4 so not to shabby!  Then it was supper and time for social #2.  It was great as most Miniota socials are.  We ended up raising a lot of money in the live and silent auctions for charity.  Now to what happened Friday night, well it's something that will probably never happen again.  Or at least not for a very very long time.  I actually got to hold an Olympic medal.  And wear it, cuz well you have to wear it.  One of the celebrities at the tournament was Jocelyne Lamaroux.  She's a hockey player and played with the US Olympic Hockey team in Vancouver.  So she brought her silver medal with her.  It was amazing...and incredibly heavy.  So of course we took a picture.  That was just one of the highlights from the weekend.  It was amazing to get home for a few days and hang out with a lot of friends and have a jam packed weekend.  So here's my pic with Jocelyne!

June 8

Hey all again!  Stampede is only 2 weeks away.  In fact 2 weeks and 1 day.  I'm really looking forward to Stamepede.  I"m going to miss the weekend but i'm not missing all the events leading up to the weekend.  Stampede downtown is happening Wednesday June 23rd in downtown Wainwright.  The Wainwright and District Chamber of Commerce is putting this on once again with so many events.  We've got the Annual Chili cookoff, a hockey tournament, obstacle race and the always loved Pie Auction.  Plus they're going to have lots of food down there and other events for the kids and adults.  Some of these events involve registration.  So head over to the chamber website www.wdchamber.com and download the pdf registration forms and I hope to see you all down there.  Track me down and say hi!

June 1

It's not yet officially summer but it is the first of June.  So that's close enough.  Although with the weather we've been getting it doesnt' seem at all like summer.  I've had one golf game...this is a travesty.  We're pretty busy on Key 83 these days.  Aaron Pritchett, whom we know and love, is doing a show in Provost Friday June 4th.  I'm hoping to be there at the show, but if I dont' make it i'm still going to talk to Aaron on Friday morning, so make sure to listen in.  Also Thursday morning Linda Nanias will be on the show to talk about the Movie in The Park this summer as the Cooperators are bringing it back.  This time...you get to pick the movie...lots of great choices and we'll release them all on Thursday morning.

June is an interesting month for me since i'm not here for 1/2 of it.  My brother is getitng married as you may have heard on July 3rd.  So i'll be home for a good chunk of time probably mowing lawns and cleaning the house in preparation.  Don't I look forward to it.  But while i'm gone a new guy is going to be filling in for me.  I'll let you know more about him next week when I leave for a day or two to head home once again.

That about does it for me...i'm writing on my new laptop...love me my new laptop.  Check back with you all soon...adios me amigos

May 26th

Hey all...I promised i'd find this video this morning on the air so here goes.  This is a song Victoria Banks wrote then got a whole bunch of country artists to chip in to sing it.  It's pretty amazing...the song and the images.  So enjoy!

April 30th

Hey all, it's been way to long, I know i'm sorry.  I sit here on this rainy dreary Friday morning, which also happens to be my Aunts birthday, so happy birthday Auntie Jan!  So much is going on including some surprises in the NHL playoffs...what the what Montreal Canadians! I could probably write an essay about what i've been up to in the past few months, but if you listen to the morning show each day you know what's been going on.  I don't keep much from you.  But this morning I talked about a guy who backed his car almost out of the parking garage...just not through the entrance...through the wall.  So here it is and wow would that scare the bejebus out of me!  Enjoy and hopefully i'll write in more often.

February 4th

Hey all, it's time to head to the barn! That's right tomorrow i'm off with Jeff to Hill 70 Quantock Barn north of Lloyd for our show!  It's my first time doing the show from a barn so we'll see how it goes.  I'm not exactly looking forward to the 3am wake-up call however!

The other big thing that's going on is of course the Scotties Tournament of Hearts...the women's curling championships! As you know I love curling, so this is exciting for me.  Today was the last day of round robin play so now it's on to tie-breakers if need be then finals on the weekend.  So you know what i'll be doing this weekend haha.  However as much as i'd like to hang out on the couch and watch curling, i'll be doing one better and actually playing the game.  The Edgerton ladies bonspiel is this weekend so we're off to curl and hopefully have a good weekend!

So once the weekend is over i'll hopefully give ya an update.  Have a great weekend and happy curling!

January 28th

Here we are 20 days after my last blog.  Been pretty busy, lots of stuff going on getting ready for the first bit of 2010.  I can't really believe that it's already almost February.  But February means Olympics and major curling events beginning so i'm all for it being here.  And also it means a lot of local curling bonspiels that i'm taking part in, Edgerton and Wainwright to be exact.  Should be great.  On the show this morning I talked about Lady Antebellum on Ellen yesterday.  I"m such a huge fan of both of all these people.  Ellen is hilarious and Lady A makes amazing music.  So put the two together and you know i'm going to love it.  Lady A was on her show yesterday and wrote a birthday song, as it was Ellen's birthday Tuesday.  It was so creative and Lady A just singing with just a guitar was fantastic.  Here it is, enjoy and i'll talk to you soon!

January 8th

First blog of the New Year!  It only took 8 days to get around to writing it.  Better late than never eh?  How were your holidays?  Mine were pretty fantastic.  Got to go home to Manitoba for a week to spend lots of time with my family and hang out with some friends I only get to see a couple times a year.  Got to go to church and light the candles while singing Silent Night which was pretty fantastic and then of course Christmas Day.  Now my brother has to split his Christmas with his fiance's family so therefore we never started opening presents till about 12:30pm on Christmas Day.  So we got to sleep in lol  But got lots of great presents....love my family!  Then of course the big news that I bought a new car!  Totally not in the plans on my way home but turns out my dad thought it's about time I get a new one, so when my car started acting up a bit, we just traded it off!  I am now the proud owner of a Pontiac G6...awesome car.

New years was pretty slow..watched some hockey, US vs Canada and watched Canada win, only to lose a few days later in the gold medal game...but what a game that was!  Anyways I was in bed before midnight.  I am so lame.  But I did make it to Manitoba New Year so got to wish my family a happy new year, then conked out.

Now we're into the new year and I was watching Ellen yesterday...like I always do.  And she reads this letter from a Canadian fan complaining that Canadians can't enter contests.  Well she didn't like this so much so out comes this guy dressed as a mountie, carrying a Canadian flag and singing our national anthem and she announces that now Canadians can enter contests!  Well I was super excited.  I've wanted to enter since the beginning but it would never let us.  She also announced that she's having a Canadian only contest to win tickets to her birthday show...so you know what I was doing yesterday!  Check out the link and enter yourself...although maybe not cuz then my chances are worse haha

December 17th

Ok so it's been a month, sorry bout that.  But it's almost Christmas Holidays for me so I figured i'd give ya one more before Christmas.  I still can't believe it's Christmas already...personally can't wait.  I love heading home to visit the family and see friends I only get to see once a year.  One other thing I love about this time of the year is all the 'top' lists that come out.  And one that came out just yesterday was the top You Tube videos.  There's some pretty hilarious ones on the list including the wedding dance craze that swept You tube and also some babies on roller skates.  Here's the full list with links...have a look and enjoy.  I'll be back at work on the 29th so i'll let you all know how my Christmas was.  Merry Christmas to all of you and have a great 2010!

Most Popular YouTube Videos: For the first time since its 2005 inception, YouTube has released a list of its most-watched videos of the year. The top video, which was Susan Boyle's breakout performance of "I Dreamed a Dream" on Britain's Got Talent, attracted more views worldwide than the next three most-watched combined. (Links are attached)

  1. Susan Boyle --http://bit.ly/TnRKo
  2. "David After Dentist" -- A 7-year-old boy shown recovering from dental work that left him groggy and disoriented and wondering if he'd ever feel normal again. -- http://bit.ly/1Srd76
  3. "JK Wedding Entrance Dance" -- A elaborate routine performed down the aisle at a wedding by bride and groom Jill Peterson and Kevin Heinz and their bridesmaids and groomsmen to the Chris Brown song, "Forever." --http://bit.ly/Z7vMw

November 18th

Well the Vancouver Olympics are just a few months away and I couldn't be more excited.  I love the Olympics, in fact i'm heading to Edmonton for the Olympic Curling Trials in December.  That's as close as i'll get as well I can't get to Vancouver for the actual games.  I went onto the CTV Olympic website and came across this story about the American Speed Skating Team.  It all started with Steven Colbert and the Colbert report on Comedy Central.  He proceeded to call Canadians syrup sucking Canadian iceholes!  Anyways if you have a sense of humor the whole story is pretty funny, but some definitely can be offended.  But the Mayor of Richmond BC, where the speed skating will take place, coined himself Chief Syrup Sucker and sent a letter back to the Colbert Report.  Read the article and draw your own opinion...but I know i'll be following this story cuz I love the Olympics!

November 12th

Hey there, so the CMA's were last night and I gotta say it was a fantastic awards show.  Lots of surprise wins and some not so surprising.  Firstly I have to say I love Taylor Swift but I don't think she should have won Female Vocalist.  She's an amazing performer and her records sound great but live, not so much.  So with the others in that category, it should have gone to one of them.  Just saying.  But I do think she deserved the Entertainer of the year...her stage show is amazing.  Loved Brad and Carrie as hosts, especially the opening where they made up their own song parodies...good times.  Also great performances from Reba, Miranda Lambert, Lady Antebellum, who I love that they beat Rascal Flatts for Group of the Year.  Also surprising that Sugarland beat Brooks and Dunn for Duo.  Thought they had that in the bag, being their last year and all.  But I was happy with Sugarland.  All in all it was a very good show and comical througout thanks to Brad and Carrie as hosts.  Enjoyed it thoroughly and worth staying up past my bedtime lol

November 9th

It's been a while again...I apologize...again lol  I guess I haven't had much in the way to say but I did watch SNL on the weekend and Taylor Swift was the host and musical guest.  It was fantastic...the whole show.  And i'm not a big fan of SNL.  I don't watch like ever unless there's a host I like so i was pleasantly surprised.  From Taylors opening monologue (below) to her portrayal of Bella from Twilight and the annoying roommate.  Plus keeping up with the regular SNL actors such as Kristin Wiig's Penelope.  It was fantastic...I can't say that enough lol  So below is her opening singing monologue.  Enjoy!

October 26th

Ok wow it's been over a month.  I've caught a  lot of hell about not updating this blog.  I apologize.  It's been a busy month and I haven't had much time to get to the blog.  So here we go, i'll try to do better in the future.  So it's October 26th...that's a significant day in that it's Rascal Flatts' day!  I'm excited for the concert tonight in Edmonton.  I've never seen Rascal Flatts before, which is why I figured I'd better go while they're here, for like the 4th time lol  It should be a great show with Darius Rucker opening up for them.  Their greatest hits album will most definitely be playing in the car on the way to the show!

I've said i've been busy and this last week was one of the busiest.  I went and saw my first ultrasound with a friend.  Never before seen one and wow what an experience.  I also got to be there when she found out what sex the baby would be.  It was an amazing moment I won't soon forget.

I also missed talking about my crazy whirlwind Manitoba Thanksgiving trip.  So I was with you all on Friday morning then 10am hit and I was on the road for the 8 1/2 hour drive home.  Normally this trip is not so bad, definitely not fun but not to bad, however it was like winter in October and I hit a storm around Regina.  Wow it was a whiteout with crappy roads.  I was going like 80 for two hours, but I made it home.  I got home at 8 that night, then off Saturday morning to my friends wedding, home Sunday afternoon for a nice turkey supper and on the road by 9am Monday morning. Roads were much better on the way back and I was missing home but glad to be back to my bed that i'm used to!

This weekend however was one of the most fun i've had.  The Wainwright Minor Hockey Association brought in Colin Christopher the hypnotist.  I always find hypnotist shows entertaining and even more entertaining when you know someone up on stage, and as luck would have it Saturday night I did.  Shalinda Kirby from Wayne FM got hypnotized and wow she was hilarious.  If you were at the show you know all about it, but i'll just say there was a time she had her leg stuck in the ice and her racecar hit a deer and brought her to tears, oh and she's quite the model!  All 5 of the people up there were so great and I have video so I can relive it over and over haha

That pretty much wraps my life in the last month in a nutshell...oh except for the fact that curling season has begun, the first big event was this past weekend, Glen Howards team is in fine form.  And I start curling tomorrow night!  So looking forward to it with my new team!  Have a great day, and hopefully i'll update you all sooner rather than later!

Sept 14th

So last night was the CCMA's...i'll give you my thoughts in a bit.  But first Kanye West is an a**!  Seriously what makes you think you're someone who can walk up on stage in the middle of someone accepting an award and say that someone else deserved it.  This happened at the MTV VMA's last night.  It was ridiculous and poor Taylor Swift was left stunned on stage and eventually just walked off without finishing her speech.  Luckily Beyonce was a class act when she won, and let Taylor return to the stage and finish her speech.  That's my thoughts on that show...now to the show that was quite tamer...the CCMA's live from Vancouver!

It was a great show, with lots of great performances.  Here's my thoughts:
Johnny Reid who led the nominations with 6 came home with 5 awards including the Fan's Choice award, Album, Songwriter, Video and Male artist of the year.

Surprisingly Crystal Shawanda won Female Artist of the Year.  Doc Walker won Group or Duo of the year (YAY!!)  Tara Oram won the Rising Star Award.  Dean Brody won Single of the Year for his single Brothers and Corb Lund won the Roots Artist of the year.

Aaron Pritchett kicked off the show singing Let's Get Rowdy and they brought in a whole bunch of BC/Vancouverites doing things like BMX, Skateboarding, Colin James playing his guitar, some Vancouver Canucks. Jason Priestly was the host...he was OK, nothing spectacular.  Some of his jokes were pretty lame but usually are on these kinds of shows.   Reba sang Consider me Gone...one of my favorites of the night.  Martina sang I Just Call You Mine.  Jessie Farrell was another one of my favorites singing You Make Me Feel.  George Canyon and Crystal Shawanda teamed up to sing a duet which was pretty good.  Terri Clark, Johnny Reid, Paul Brandt, Gord Bamford, Doc Walker also performed.  Reba, Martina and Jessie Farrell did a cute little skit about twittering...ending with Reba excited she was in the same room as Luke Perry.  Jason Priestley of course being there said well played Reba well played.  The show ended with Jann Arden singing and then all of the Rising Star Nominees, Victoria Banks, Dean Brody, Jo Hikk, Tara Oram and Damian Marshall joined her to sing Good Mother and the show ended.

September 10th

September 9th

Hello all!  It's finally here...the beginning of the Fall TV season!  I am such a tv geek.  I've been told this by family and friends, most vocally my sister.  But I know it and I embrace it haha  Yesterday was the beginning of a few shows and it continues for the next month...premiers baby lol  But most exciting yesterday was the return of the Ellen show.  If you know me you know I love Ellen's comedy.  And her show is full of it so I watch every day.  Yesterday was the premiere and she did her regular monologe, but then came out with this dance.  Fantastic.  Made me want to get up and dance too...and i'm not a dancer at all!  So sit back and enjoy!

September 1st

Welcome back to school everyone! I'm sure the parents are a little happy about this, the kids maybe not so much.  But it is back to school time so just remember kids are going to be running around so watch out for them on the roads, and of course watch for those cameras on the school busses, they will get you if you pass when the lights are flashing!

To the point of today's blog...Carrie Underwood!  Seriously one of my favorite artists.  I have both of her albums and am super excited for the third one.  It hits stores on November 3rd and just announced today it's going to be called Play On!  I really can't wait, it's kind of ridiculous lol  But I do love my country music.  Yesterday they released the cover art for the album.  So here's what you'll have to look for in stores November 3rd!

Woop woop!!

August 28th

Wow so school starts soon.  In Saskatchewan it's already started, Alberta goes back on Tuesday.  This is always an exciting time.  Kids love going back to see all their friends, not so much for the learning part.  I always loved the buying of the school supplies.  It was such a fun day, then going home and packing it all up and getting it put in the new backpack.  Oh and the clothes, because there's always a new outfit you get to pick out for the first day.  Loved it.  But now I work everyday and it's not nearly as exciting getting ready for work lol

Also today marks the 44th birthday of Shania Twain.  I've been watching her website at www.shaniatwain.com and waiting for the big birthday announcement.  I'm writing this at 7am and there's nothing yet.  But keep checking the site and i'll let you know on here when she announces whatever it is she's announcing.  I doubt it's new music.  I think that's too much to ask.  However one never knows.

Tomorrow i'm off to Hardisty to golf.  I've never been out there, actually only been in Hardisty once, at like 10 at night.  So it'll be like my first trip there.  I'm looking forward to it.  I love to check out different golf courses and try my hand at them.  I've heard it's a tough one, so we'll see how it goes!  I"ll let you all know on Monday how it went, especially with the guy we're golfing with who really doesn't golf at all.  Should be interesting lol

For now though, have a great weekend!  Be safe and enjoy the nice sunshiny weather!!

August 19th

So i'm back from holidays...and right now i'm eating pie my mom made me.  She is the best!  I think i've finally recovered from the holidays and my days spent in a boat.  But man was it relaxing.  Absolutely great to get away and do nothing but fish for 4 days and also attend the wedding of one of my good friends.  It was a great week, but I'm happy to be back with all of you.

If you were listening this morning you heard the big announcement that Tim McGraw has teamed up with Panhandle Productions to put on a make up concert to those who attended Big Valley Jamboree.  Amazing guy to do that.  It's going to be September 17th at Rexall Place in Edmonton.  If you bought your VIP, Reserved Seating, 3 Day pass or a Sunday day pass you will receive instructions in the mail as to how to get  your ticket for the show.  It's all pre-assigned seating.  There will be support added and we'll let you know as soon as we know.

On a side note, i had an absoultely amazing supper last night.  Garden potatoes and carrots and fish that I caught last week.  I'm sure it was one of these ones right here, since about 3/4 on this string are mine lol

August 4th

It's been a weekend, one i'm sure none of us will forget.  I had great plans for the weekend.  Off to Edgerton for a round of golf on Saturday, maybe a movie Saturday night and then leaving early Sunday for a day at Big Valley Jamboree.  I got the round of golf in, but then things took a turn for the worse at 7pm on Saturday night.  I had just sat down for a movie and decided to check my facebook.  The first thing I see is Jessie Farrell's status saying that Billy Currington has been hit by flying debris and a band mate is missing.  At this point i'm not sure what to think, so I kept on there and watched the story unfold.  The main stage had collapsed and reports were that one person had died and that 4 were critically injured.  That's when the awful feeling deep in my gut set in.  I had friends there, everyone had friends there.  I immediately tried to contact them.  I heard from a few of them as they relayed the story.  While I was relieved that they were ok, I knew some persons family would not get the same news.  I sat at my computer for 3 hours that night, trying to get a mental picture of what went down.  It was a horrible event, an act of mother nature no one saw coming.  From the reports I heard the emergency crews were exceptional.  They were on scene in minutes helping people out of the wreckage.  While thoughts wonder if the event will continue next year, we need to take a minute to send thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Donna Moore, a great country music fan.

July 27th!

I've been a terrible blogger!  I apologize, I really do.  It's been such an insane summer that i've been going a little crazy.  But here is something to cheer you up.

This is a video of a wedding in St. Paul Minnesota.  Instead of the regular walk down the aisle they put their own spin on it and it became a You Tube sensation.  So click on the link below and enjoy!

June 16th

Hey all!  It's Stampede week...I hope everyone's excited.  I'm disappointed I have to miss it this year.  But Manitoba is calling my name for the weekend so off I go.  The point of this blog here is to showcase the opening of the CMT Video awards.  Hilarious...Taylor Swift raps with T-Pain.  Enjoy...we will talk about this on the show tomorrow!

May 11th

Go see the new Star Trek.  You don't have to be a Trekkie to understand, or even like it.  There's a little for everyone, but Chris Pine and Zack Quinto give amazing performances, and the effects are pretty cool.  I enjoyed it and had only seen one or two episodes of Star Trek before.  And that was when I was like 10 watching TV with my dad.  Definitely worth a look.  Can't wait for the rest of the Summer blockbusters to hit the screen this summer.  It's going to be a good one!

April 27th

So there's snow on the ground.  I hate this.  I really really do.  It's April 27th and there's snow on the ground. It's just not right.  I want to golf.  I even have my clubs out, all cleaned off and in my living room.  They are ready, why isn't the weather.  Last weekend it was supposed to be nice, and while all the snow from Friday had melted, it just wasn't quite golf weather. So I have put it off.  And now I wait, wait for the snow to disappear and the grass to green and the golf clubs to make their way to the car!

April 17th

IT's Friday!!!! I love Fridays, it's the only day I can turn off my alarm, and not just leave it on for the next day.  It's a happy morning on Fridays lol  And to make today even better....they released a brand new Harry Potter Trailer for the Half Blood Prince.  Oi am I ever excited for this.  Yes i'm a Harry Potter geek!  So I'm going to share my love for Harry with the trailer right here for your viewing pleasure!!

April 15th

I'm not very good at this blog thing.  I only put something up or write something when it pops in my head.  So apparently I haven't had much pop into my head.  But today I came across this amazing performance from Britains Got Talent.  I'm sure we've all judged people by their outside appearance, and that's what happened to this lady.  But were we all pleasantly shocked at what happened next.  I've watched it 2 or 3 times, it's amazing. So here's a link...take a listen!

April 6th

So it's been quite a while, i'm not very good and puntuatlity, and very good at procrastinating!  What a weekend here in Wainwright.  Seriously i've never been so busy but never had so much fun.  It all began Friday with a great concert at the PMM, George Canyon and Gord Bamford.  What a concert, these guys are great live, and great friends too so we got a little insight on tour pranks played by each of them.  I got to MC the concert and meet both Gord and George.  They're great guys, and thanks for signing some stuff for the station!  Next up was Saturday morning where I was off to the Buffalo Park Hall on Base for the DOAC Spring Race!  I was not racing...no I was in charge of food, serving it specifically.  Good Irish Stew made by Renee England...good stuff!  3 course records were broken so good on all the participants and it was a great time out there, finished just before the snow fell!  Then came the Cash For the Cure Banquet Saturday night.  We're raising money for the Canadian Cancer society.  What a fun night, so many silent auction items as well as 6 live auction items including a trip to Egypt!  I don't have a final total yet but it was a great night and i'm sure we raised a lot for cancer research.  Can't wait for next year.  I just hope that everything doesn't fall on the same weekend again haha  i'm going home for a nap, still exhausted.  But first i'm going to leave you with a clip from the Academy Of Country Music Awards that were on last night (another event I had to stay up to watch)  It's Carrie Underwoods massive dress.  Seriously huge, not sure how she walked.  But here she is singing I Told You So From the show last night!

March 24th

Ok so it's been a week!  A very busy week which is why I haven't written in a while.  We've got lots going on here on Key 83.  One of which is our Great Grocery Giveaway.  I can't wait till April 1st.  The shop-off between Key and Wayne is going to be fantastic.  How much entertainment is it going to be for 2 people to shove as much in their cart as they can in 2 minutes.  It's going to be hilarious and exciting.  But first people have to qualify.  Good qualifiers so far.  People are catching on to the game of Password. Dont' know if any of you have seen it on tv.  But they have Million Dollar Password on hosted by Regis Philbin.  I watched a couple episodes.  That's where we got the idea.  So i'm counting down the days till April 1st.  In other news Jennifer Jones is doing really well at the World Curling Championships in Korea.  6 and 1 record...way to go!  I'm cheering for them every day as I watch the line scores come down...it is a 15 hour time difference!  It's to hard to actually do the math and figure out what time it is over there, so I won't hurt my head.  That's all for today!  Have a good one all!!

March 16th

Here we are, another Monday morning and another end to a great week of curling.  The Brier wrapped up last night in Calgary.  This year was extra special because I actually got to go and watch some live, which i've never done before so that was exciting.  But even more exciting was watching Manitoba's Jeff Stoughton win 5  straight to get to the final.  They had to win their last two round robin games to even  get a tiebreaker, then beat Quebec in the tie breaker, Newfoundland Labrador in the Page 3-4 game and then Ontario in the Semi-final.  Very impressive performance.  However my team Manitoba was no match for my adoptive province Alberta and Kevin Martin. I mean Kevin himself was playing at 97 percent, and the rest of the team was above 88 so when you play like that the other team doesn't have a chance.  So in the 9th down 10-4 Jeff Stoughton goes to throw his last rock and does his signiture spin out of the hack.  I'd been waiting to see that and was so happy that he ended on that note.  He knew he lost but still had a good attitude about it.  Classy Manitoba!  But congrats to team Alberta and we'll be cheering you on in Moncton as you represent Canada at the world Championships in April!

March 11th

So i'm back from the Brier!  What an amazing trip.  Being such a huge curling fan to be able to be at the event live was quite the experience.  I'd never been to the saddledome so that was cool too and pretty cool how they transform it into a curling arena.  I've got to say thanks to my friend Renee for coming with me and driving lol it's a long trip!  And to my brother and his fiancee for letting us crash on their floor.  And also to Renee's friend who snuck us down to the front row so we could feel like we were in the action!  The brier patch was quite the experience as well.  Even got a talking to by Kevin Koe who blamed me for them not being at the brier...since I did forget to announce them at provincials here in Wainwright!  Never did track down Jeff Stoughton to get a picture.  He's my favorite and from Manitoba!  Maybe next time.  Now to what I promised you.  The most amazing shot i've seen in curling like ever, and i've seen a lot of shots.  It's Glen Howard of Ontario against Joel Jordison from Saskatchewan.  It's the 10th end, last rock of the end.  Glen needs 3 to win.  Here it is!  Enjoy!!

March 6th

Ok I just watched the most hilarious thing on Ellen's website...it's on the show today but the video is already on the site. It's a clip of Ellen telling a worker at Starbucks what to say. Watch it, it's worth the 5 minutes! Here's the link check it out. www.ellentv.com Then come back, i've got more to say. Wasn't that hilarious!  Especially the part at the beginning with the baby...I laughed out loud.  When I can find it on youtube i'll post it here!

So it's Friday March 6th.  That means 2 things...firstly it's my birthday tomorrow!  So that's very exciting, I turn 25.  I'm getting old, i'm a quarter of a century.  My parents have also figured this means they're getting old too...The second thing is that the Brier starts tomorrow which means that i'm off to Calgary today with one of my friends and fellow curlers Renee.  We're departing this afternoon for a weekend full of curling in Calgary.  We are going to brave the train system so we don't have to brave traffic, eat cheesecake cuz i'm making my brother give me a birthday cake and of course watch Manitoba win!  Or Alberta, i'm good with either lol

Oh and one more thing it's Time Change this weekend!  So we lose an hour of sleep on Sunday morning.  So a friendly reminder, when you go to bed Saturday night change your clocks ahead an hour, so you're not late anywhere to try to go Sunday morning!  Have a great weekend...i'll give you a recap of my curling filled weekend when I return Tuesday!

March 5th

Snow Days!  Oh how I wish I could still get snow days.  I envy everyone who can do that.  Today the roads are terrible and visibility very low so some of the staff here couldn't make it in to work.  Hence the snow day.  I came to the realization that as long as I live where i'm currently living I will never have a snowday.  Firstly I live 2 blocks away from work, so if I can't get my car out then i'm walking, no matter what the weather.  I can bundle up and suffer through it.  And secondly in my line of work, a snow day means you have to get someone else to come and cover your show.  And no one is happy with you if you wake them up at 4:30 in the morning and tell them they have to find a way into work because you can't.  So I don't get snow days which i'm sure a lot of you can relate to.  There's just no way you can get out of work because of some snow.  Oh how I wish I was 10 again...I lived for snow days!!

Mar 2nd

Team Jones are Canadian Champs!!!  This is the last curling blog for a while...until Tuesday when I get back from the Brier...I promise!  It was a rough weekend if you were a fan of Jennifer Jones, Cathy O, Jill Officer and Dawn Askin.  They barely made it out of the tiebreaker, stealing points in 10 and 11 and then had tough games against Saskatchewan and Quebec to even get to the final against BC.  I tell you I was on the edge of my couch yelling at the tv at some points...and jumping up and down when they did win and finally win the Championship game.  I do love my curling.  So now they're off to Korea for the World Championships where they try to repeat as World Champs.  It's going to be tough competition but I have faith my fellow Manitobans can do it...good luck!

On another note before I leave you...RIP Paul Harvey.  I've always enjoyed Paul Harvey News that we play each and every morning here on Key 83.  Even though he hasn't been the actual voice behind the News it's been his and he's had a say in it even though he was 90 years old...he worked up to his dying day.  The Rest Of The Story was my favorite Paul Harvey feature.  You always learned something, no matter who you were.  He will be missed and I hope that Paul Harvey will live on so we can all enjoy his brand of news even though he's no longer with us!

Feb 27th

2 days in a row...i'm on a roll!  Still in curling mode, had to wake up at 11:30 last night and check who won the game between Canada and BC at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.  yes I love curling that much.  Happy to hear Canada won but they got a long trek yet going through the tiebreaker.  We'll see how it all turns out, a full report on Monday for all of you don't worry.

On another curling note, big congratulations to Joan Spornitz from Czar Alberta.  Her lie was the best and she's off to the Brier in Calgary for the entire week along with a hotel room at the Executive Royal.  It's going to be a great week so have fun Joan!  Check out her lie here!  Have a great weekend everyone and we'll talk to you Monday!

Feb 26th

Wow it's been a while.  I've been in curling mode and basically it's muddled my mind.  First of all the provincials came and went, then the next weekend was our local ladies bonspiel.  Now this is an interesting weekend, but a lot of fun.  I had a terrible few shots in one game..like completely missed them.  So I blame it on the geisha girls who fed me love potion during the game.  You know who you are haha  I survived that though and though we didn't win a game we had a lot of fun and good curling.  But then the Scotties Tournament of Hearts began in Victoria so i've been watching it on tv at any chance I get...go Team Canada!!!  I love Jennifer Jones!

But on to the purpose of this blog, this crazy story that I saw on Ellen.  I love stupid criminal stories, but this is one that is'nt so much a stupid criminal but a person who was a little stupid trying to stop a criminal.  This lady saw this guy "that looked up to no good" walk by her window then she heard a car alarm go off.  So she went out after telling her co-worker to call 911.  As she was out there trying to distract the thief from stealing the car by telling him she called the police the co-worker came out and asked if she wanted her to call 911!  So the thief decided he could just walk away.  The lady was having none of that and started to follow him, they started to run, she grabbed his sweatshirt, he slipped out of it.  She then kept following him and grabbed his belt but got his boxers and gave him a wedgie...needless to say this stopped him!  She's lucky she didn't get clocked by this guy.  It's a good thing he was such a passive theif or she would have been in trouble.  I wish I had the video to show you the interview but I can't seem to find it.  It was more entertaining when she was telling it!

That's it for the long entry today, thanks for reading...hopefully i'll check in sooner rather than later!

Feb 18th

I have finally recovered...I think.  So that's my excuse for not updating you sooner!  The Curling provincials were a blast.  It was such a busy week but such a fun one.  Got to meet some very cool people, curling people in my mind are cool haha  My job as part of the committee was look after the media but I got to use some of my radio expertise and do some announcing.  It was my job to announce who was playing before each game.  I also got to be the MC of the closing ceremonies.  Now I thought it was just going to be standing there and talking but I got to march out with the teams and actually announce with all of the tv cameras around.  So it was ridiculously nerve racking.  I'm not a big fan of tv, of being on tv so this was a crazy experience since the cameras were right there!  And I also had the knowledge that it was being broadcast all across Canada, and that my parents were watching.   But it went off without a hitch and it was a very successful event.  I have to say a big congrats to the organizing committee for pulling this off.  Also thanks to all the volunteers, the officials and the ice making team.  It was fantastic!  Now I gotta get ready to actually curl myself as the ladies bonspiel is this weekend in Wainwright. Come on out and cheer us on, and buy some tickets on some great raffle prizes.  I'll update ya soon!! Thanks for reading.

Feb 13th

Well it's been a few days, i've been busy sorry!  As you know the Alberta Mens Provincial Championships are going on here in Wainwright.  Now not only am I a huge curling fan and would pretty much be there all the time anyways but I am on the organizing committee which means I have to be there at the beginning of every draw.  I get to announce who's playing each draw!  Very exciting.  I'm not sure if you were at the opening cermonies or listened to the show yesterday, but I was the MC and I kinda forgot to announce Kevin Koe's team while I was introducing all the teams.  I remembered before the ceremonies were over and kinda made up for it but it was pretty embarrasing lol  I apologized to the team after, they were cool with it so all is well.

Another highlight of these events is getting to meet the curlers, because to me they're just as famous as a singer or actor.  So it was fun to have John Morris in the studios yesterday afternoon.  He did an interview with JR over on Wayne FM but I got a chance to chat with him and he's really an awesome guy.  And of course I had to get a pic taken!  It's below. (pretty sure my eyes are closed dang it!)  Hopefully i'll update you on Monday about how the weekend and the finals went, but it is family day and well i'm going to be recovering so it may be Tuesday!

We're back today with another Ellen clip.  You will come to realize how much I adore this lady.  She's so hilarious and it comes so easy to her.  So here she is with Heidi Klum striking a pose with a fashion game.  I enjoy the last pose the best!
